Citizen's Opportunity for Development &
Equality, Inc. (CODE) is a 501-c-3 not-for-profit
corporation founded in 1981 to promote revitalization
activities in the City of Jamestown, Cattaraugus County,
Chautauqua County, and Western NY. CODE's primary activities
concentrate on reviving structures on the major arterial
leading into the city and its manufacturing base. Long
term planning with phases in construction has allowed CODE,
Inc. to effectively create low- and very low-income housing
which is attractive, clean, safe and affordable. These
projects are designed to promote private sector investment
back into the neighborhood as funding includes both
government and private sources. CODE, Inc. also works
closely with foundations, businesses and government in
fostering community and economic development projects which
promote growth in employment and revitalization of
underutilized land and structures. CODE's mission is to
promote revitalization activities in designated
neighborhoods in Western New York by:
-cleaning, repairing or renovating substandard properties
and bringing them into compliance with building codes
providing safe, clean and affordable housing for low-income
families, the elderly, the disabled and others;
-management of completed affordable housing project to
insure long term viability and compliance.
-providing information and assistance to individuals and
groups as a means of effectuating revitalization activities
and enhancing the community; and
-promoting revitalization by guiding economic development in
areas that are blighted, abandoned, deteriorated and where
property values are depressed. |
